CLLARE Main Computer System

The CLLARE Computer System is interfaced with:

  • Navigation data sources (GPS, IMU, Stellar Navigation, etc)
  • The Communications System
  • AV equipment
  • Various sensor equipment
  • Any attached Orbital Bus
  • spyware removal
  • CLLARE RCS

and performs such task as:

  • Integrating navigation data sources to estimate position, velocity and attitude (Kalman filtering, etc.)
  • Storing voice, video and telemetry data (see CLLARE Reliable Data Storage System)
  • Forward voice, video and telemetry data to Communications System
  • Presenting data to pilot via display system.
  • Controlling Orbital Bus and RCS

Current the Computer System is purely a concept with no concrete plans at all. We need to think about this. Questions:

  • One big computer using multitasking or many small application specific computers? - a lockstep system being directly controlled but output fed to secondary computers?
  • Custom designed hardware/firmware or commodity x86 etc. hardware running Linux/BSD? - sub 5 second fault detection/restart
  • Radiation shielding.
  • This is a hard realtime system, failing to fire RCS for the correct amount of time because a screen is updating would be bad.
