  • Lockstep Computing - The shuttle's main computer system has two separately written software systems. 4 computers run the main system and 1 computer runs the backup system, in case a scenario occurs which causes the main system to fail. 4 computers means that you can vote out a computer with a transient fault and still have redundancy while it reboots.
